TOP Destinations: Kathmandu
Kathmandu. Nepal's capital provides an excellent base to explore the surrounding valley offering the world's densest collection of World Heritage Sites. Kathmandu is a pulsating city converging to its Durbar Square in the heart of the old town full of ancient architecture. On the hilltop, Swayambhunath is a Buddhist temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, centred around the tall stupa. This temple is only overcome by the Asia's largest stupa at Bodhnath where hundreds of pilgrims devotely walk around the stupa in a ritual full of meaning. Around the temple several gompas or monasteries are the new homeland for the Tibetan refugees. At the hindu temple Pashupatinath, Sadhus gather around the sacred Bagmati river. Here death is present in a quite disturbing way as everyday funerals happen at the gaths where bodies are cremated in open-air wooden pyres. Get a glimpse into Kathmandu valley by watching my latest album here. Carlos Esteves Comments
